Use of '@' character
An at character ('@') can be used where you need an "empty consonant". Like, when you need to show the symbol of a vowel instead of the vowel itself. Example : 'ാ' ദീര്ഘത്തിന്റെ ചിഹ്നം = "@aa deeghatthinte chihnam".

We can still achieve the same effect as by typing ")m" . for eg: "23-)m thiyyathi"
